Have you tried turning on Windows Defender on windows 7/8/10 and keep getting this message “Windows Defender is turned off by group policy”?.
I Guess you are in policy restrictions under local group policies, You have to delete your PC from that group policies in order access the windows defender. Occasionally you may want to disable policy settings rather than delete the entire Local Group Policy.
The Group Policy it is referring to is probably the value DisableAntiSpyware under HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender in the registry. Once this value is deleted Windows Defender should work again.
To disable user or computer policy settings in a Local Group Policy object
- press WIN+R
- type regedit and press enter
- open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- open software
- open policies
- open microsoft
- open windows defender
- on the right side delete that blue icon i.e disable spyware or something.
- Close the registry and search for Windows Defender
- Windows Defender should be able to turn on now.
