The NYSC and Community Development Services, CDS

News

Community Development Service (CDS) is one of the four (4) Cardinal Programmes of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in which corps members contribute positively to the enhancement of their host communities during the period of their national service.

The goal of CDS is to improve the economic, health, political and socio-cultural conditions of our host communities towards sustainable development. It is worthwhile mentioning that since its inception in 1973, the National Youth Service Corps has been making great contributions in the social, political and economic transformation of the nation.

In order to discharge its mandate, the department is headed by a Director who coordinates its three (3) Divisions and seven(7) Branches. However, two (2) special Units were recently created by the department to accommodate the excess Deputy Directors that were posted to it. This also led to the creation of some branches/sections.

The division is headed by a Deputy Director. It is made up of the following branches:

    1. Traditional Community Development Service Branch
